There are various classes of label printers. One class is the desktop-class label printer. Desktop class means that the label printer is suitable for use in a stationary situation, where the label printer is never moved, but that the label printer is also compact enough to be used in situations where portability is required. A desktop class printer is smaller than bench printers, but larger than handheld label printers.
Most safety labeling is done using desktop class label printers. The desktop class is the most popular because it is the most versatile. Because of their compact size, desktop class label printers provide the right balance between functionality and portability. Most desktop class label printers offer print widths from .5" all the way up to 4".
Desktop class labeling systems are usually lighter than 20lbs, and usually require a connection with either a PC or a Laptop. Most Desktop class labeling machines are made with high-durability plastic casings for weight and performance. Desktop class labeling systems are suitable for use in office settings, or in industrial environments.
